Gregg Araki's got a new one...something to look fwd to in 2015 (hopefully...)

...unless you think it's worth it to pay $8++ to see a movie in theaters.

WHITE BIRD IN A BLIZZARD, based on some book, all-star cast, apparently he's moving up in showbiz?  Heh.  Hopefully it'll be on par with MYSTERIOUS SKIN, which is a great freakin' movie...!!!  nowhere will always have a special place in my heart for being there when I was a socially awkward 16-19 year old, but now I'm a socially awkward 30 year old, and the film just doesn't impact me the way it did back then...the fact that I've seen it 10 times or more doesn't help either...but anyway...I might have liked KABOOM more had I been younger and he'd done that as a follow up to nowhere rather than SPLENDOR, which is a rip off of like 5 other movies and has almost nothing to it...and I say "almost" with hesitation...and of course his follow up to MYSTERIOUS SKIN might have been a joke in and of itself...

So...
GHOSTBUSTERS "1 & 2" BD - Sept 16, 2014
WHITE BIRD IN A BLIZZARD - 0/0/15

If Genesis or Oingo Boingo could put something out, maybe I'd have a third thing to add to this list...

Another Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie seems to be incoming...hopefully it won't be all corny like the 1st 3 that came out from 1989-1993.  I still need to see the CGI animated one from 2007...I had no interest in it at the time, I guess I feel a little bitter toward the franchise, b/c if it hadn't taken off like it did, maybe GHOSTBUSTERS toys would still be around...whereas toy companies are now putting out this "adult collector" toys that serve absolutely no purpose...yeah, they're "display" toys, but what the heck is so great about watching a statue of Bill Murray in a jumpsuit?  PUT SOME HEART INTO IT, YOU PEOPLE!!!  Toys are for kids.  And for adults who have a little (or a lot of) kid left in them.  Not for executive suites owned by obsessive compulsive numbskulls.

I WANT IT NOW!!!!

I had to re-order GBI&II BD set b/c the price went down and Amazon's "pre-order price guarantee" didn't kick in...or had not yet kicked in, depending on who you wanna believe...ooooh...

Love sittin' back at my desktop.  I feel like a king...

twice..

My bro-in-law gave me n' Mum a computer...so now I can Blog!  Like it's 2008!

Yeah.

So...I guess that's worth its' own blog entry.

...

Neither mine or Mom's keyboard would connect to it; we needed something w/ a USB connector.  At first we tried an adapter, didn't work for some reason, then I asked my sister to fwd me a gift card so I could buy one on Amazon, so that way I could submit the order confirmation to FreeShipping.com, but my uncle John had just bought a computer, and had a spare keyboard that fit our needs just fine.  And I was able to cancel the Amazon order, but was left w/ a $15 Amazon gift card...so I gotta pay it back asap...

Oh, and I was rambling about should/shouldn't/should I? cancel the Amazon order and keep from (not) getting kicked off for TOS violation, but I went ahead and cancelled it anyway.  I went ahead and ordered GBI&II BD and one of the CDs from the other aforementioned order, and yay! TAXI DRIVER went down significantly in price since yesterday, so I went ahead and got that (and now I can watch it on my blu ray player ala Amazon Instant Video, yee-haw!).

I rented a movie from Hastings yesterday even though I'm behind returning a movie from Family Video; it was due on Friday?, and I intended to return it then but I went to bed like 5+ hours before they close, and I woke up 2+ hours after they closed.  Brr...now it's due on Wed?  It's a 5 day rental, I can't remember when exactly it was due at first, but whatever day it was, 5 days plus then.  So...[sigh]...yeah...

I found out yesterday(?) Dennis Cooper's borefest CLOSER is back in print.  I'm an idiot!  I still keep thinking about that book.  I like the title.  The idea of being close...closer...becoming so close you end up as one...speaking of which, I skipped Church today.  Just didn't feel like it.  I wanted to listen to some music.  And I did.  So;...
There's all these books that look/sound interesting...they're soooo not the kind of books my local library carries.  They carry standard 300-500 page mainstream fare.  Weird...there's like A TON of them.  Some of them I skip over, more or less, even though if I paid mind to all of them, what would I lose?  So much to read, so much money to spend that I don't have.....

GHOSTBUSTERS & GHOSTBUSTERS II [Blu ray] -- Coming Sept 16

The front cover, as was the case with the 2005 DVD "gift set", states "GHOSTBUSTERS 1 & 2", as if "Ghostbusters 1" is the title of any movie...sigh...the cover is cool though.  It sorta reminds me of the glow that swarmed around the lettering of GHOSTBUSTERS II on the front cover of the original VHS from 1990.  Except in this case it's a blue glow, not a green one.  And the background is also reminiscent of the "tunnel light" (?) in the background of the same front cover art of the GBII VHS.

I went ahead and ordered it today, b/c I needed something to keep my autorips from resulting in a declined debit card transaction...I forwent renewing my Sony Music Unlimited subscription this month, so I'm DYING to hear so many great musical pieces (songs/albums/...).
Explain, please?  OK:  ...Um...I'll try anyway:
My entire shipment is scheduled to ship on Sept 16.  Presently, I have $0 in my bank account.  Amazon doesn't bill you until they ship.  The autorips get added to my "Amazon Music Library" as soon as the order is placed.  So: I get the music now, and pay later.  I can cancel my order, but at this point I feel that would be like theft, b/c A) I'd heard the CDs before I bought them, on various on demand streaming music services, and B) I've now heard them again courtesy of Amazon's autorip program.  As long as I don't download the songs, I am not obligated to pay anything...seems like Amazon would be pressured into changing this, but...well, I'm sure if I got carried away with this, they may consider sending me a friendly reminder that my membership can be terminated, regardless of what if any Terms Of Service I have violated, and there may even be something about such behavior written in their TOS...

I ordered three CDs totaling just under $35 ($35 is the minimum for free shipping).  They may decide to ship the CDs soonisher, but I'll be getting some moolah on Friday, so it shouldn't be a huge problem given the somewhat ridiculous time it takes Amazon to get items out the door when shipping isn't paid for (even the "standard" shipping rate usually results in semi-slow out-the-door timing).

Also, GHOSTBUSTERS II Soundtrack is being re-issued on vinyl.  Seriously?  Maybe a CD release will see the light of day soon?  It's been out of print for eons!

I sure hope Dan Aykroyd doesn't die before GHOSTBUSTERS III begins filming, supposedly this coming spring (almost a freakin' year from now!!!).  We already have Harold Ramis dead, Bill Murray refusing to participate, and Dan Aykroyd is a heart attack waiting to happen.  Although I think the ripe age for a heart attack has passed for him...he's like 60 something isn't he?  Heart attacks usually happen between age 30 and 50, I think...given my lack of "I was there" knowledge, I can't say for certain how Ramis' death will effect the effectiveness of this film...neither Reitman or Ramis have contributed much if anything worthwhile to movie goers over the past 10+ years...I'm glad Sony isn't relying on Aykroyd and Ramis exclusively to get the film done...but I am glad they are letting them contribute their input, because when all is said and done it is their film, and it can't be easy for someone else to pick up where GHOSTBUSTERS II left off without coming off as an imposter.  It's still not going to feel like a seamless transition, I'd be surprised if it is -- the length of time since the 1st sequel came out if nothing else will indeed impact the feel of the movie --, but at least it'll feel somewhat more genuine; Aykroyd and/or Ramis can at the very least tell whoever is responsible for the bulk of the current draft what they did wrong, and go back and re-submit it...
I'm getting pumped up and misty eyed at the same time...wooooahh...waxing philosophical here...

Supposedly there's a bounty of GHOSTBUSTERS paraphernalia to be avail. for purchasing in recognition of the 30th Anniversary of the original film, but all the good stuff has yet to be released.  Marshmallow Fun Co. is supposed to be coming out with this projectile guns w/ GB branding AND they supposedly have plans to put out Stay Puft "brand" marshmallows...hopefully they'll put an image of THE Stay Puft Marshmallow Man on the package, not the turtle-fied Stay Puft that NECA sculpted for their bobble head of it back in 2001.  A lip balm that came out 2 or 3 years ago as well as a different co's attempt at manufacturing Stay Puft marshmallows used a likeness of that NECA sculpt in their packaging.  Only time will tell.
OH, and some GB pens are to be coming out...unless the co. responsible for this announcement changed their plans...they look ugly, but who doesn't need a pen?  And they'll have the GB logo on the packaging (I HOPE!!!)....it may not be very big though; if they put it in the wording and leave out the big logo, I will be sorely fissed.  They do the opposite quite often, but sometimes they neglect to highlight the logo instead opting for the text w/ the logo inside.  Kenner always used the big logo and the little logo in the wording, and packaged their toys with bright purple backgrounds on the front.  Their toys were always imaginative, too...Fearsome Flush was a delightful slice of cartoonish macabre and I also very much liked their sculpt of the Universal Monsters, especially The Wolf-Man.  As with the hero figures, the original wave of ghosts were the best - H2 Ghost especially, and the Gooper Ghosts,...man, they were on high!!!  And so was I...hehehe...um...yeah, I mean, I'm not high...really...I will always have this tinge of disappointment when I see a UPS truck though.  Someone mailed me Sludge Bucket (one of the Gooper Ghosts) via UPS.  My mom threw away the EctoPlazm that came with it, so the toy was pretty much useless.  I also remember someone mailed me the original Peter Venkman hero figure (w/ brown suit and proton pack) and we had to return it b/c my mother had already given me one for Easter (no need to have two of the same figure right?  Yeah, try telling that to certain sellers on eBay...it does seem like I suggested maybe I keep it and not open it, since I simply did like the way the toys looked in the package...it was a primitive instinct to open the toys; I didn't "play" with them in the traditional sense, or at least that's what my mom told me a couple times...the highlight of buying a Ghostbusters toy was going to the store and seeing them in their bright colorful packaging...buying one and opening it in the car is kinda like a collective unconscious tradition...or something like that...idk...)

Hmm...now I wonder how far someone would need to go to find these exact same sentiments written in another blog post in this blog...and how many times....HOW MANY TIMES!!!

eeh...Um...toodles.
